I am passionate about our schools, as it is vital that we extend opportunity to all through outstanding state education.
For the past 7 years I have volunteered as a Governor of Oak Lodge School for the Deaf in Balham, so that I can help teachers and pupils to succeed, and to get front-line experience of our local schools.
As a candidate to be your Member of Parliament for Tooting, I’m proud of the education results achieved by Wandsworth Conservatives, our local teachers and pupils:
- School standards are high, with 96% of local schools being Ofsted rated Good or Outstanding
- Three new schools have been built in recent years – Rutherford House in Balham, Floreat in Earlsfield, and Tooting Primary School
- We have invested in new school buildings for several existing schools, most recently Hillbrook Primary School in Tooting, Burntwood School in Earlsfield and Chestnut Grove Academy in Balham
- Our exam results are well above the national average: last year 70 per cent of pupils achieved five or more A*- C passes, including English and Maths.
Looking forward. I'm delighted that the Conservative Manifesto for the 2017 Election commits pledges an extra £4Bn of funding for schools, protecting their budgets for the next 5 years, and helping our teachers continue the excellent work they are doing.
If elected as your MP, I will be a strong voice locally and in Parliament, continuning to press for more school places to be created locally (e.g. at the proposed new Springfield school on Burntwood Lane) and to ensure we build on the progress the Conservatives have made to school standards since 2010.
I hope you can support me on June 8th and in doing so secure a strong economy and continued investment in our local public services.
