Dan Watkins, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Tooting, today welcomed the measures unveiled by Chancellor of the Exchequer in this year’s budget.
The measures announced will support Tooting's businesses to invest, export and create jobs, encouraging economic growth in the area while supporting families with a range of tax cuts and childcare support.
From April 2015, the personal allowance will rise to £10,500, cutting taxes for 42,512 Tooting residents and lifting 396 out of paying tax altogether.
Dan commented: "The income tax cut is fantastic news; people are keeping more of the money they've worked hard to earn. I know that childcare takes up a significant proportion of family budgets here in South West London, so the Chancellor's announcement of a childcare tax break worth up to £2,000 per child is particularly welcome."
In addition to the good news announced in the budget, new employment data was released this morning which showed that unemployment has fallen yet again and a record number of people are now in work.
Dan added: "The Conservatives' long-term plan is working, and 1.7 million new jobs have been created in the private sector since the last election. In Tooting, the number of people claiming Jobseekers' Allowance is at a 5 year-low, down by almost 25% since the 2010 election. This is great progress but there remains much more to be done."
