Dan Watkins and the Furzedown Conservative Action Team have been out and about in the ward for the past few weekends in response to issues raised to them by local residents and businesses. The issues, many of them long-standing, have been raised during the many canvassing and leafleting sessions that India Brummitt, Greg Munro and Tracy Scott have been running with Dan in Furzedown.
They discussed with tenants on Aldrington Road a number of longstanding issues with their accommodation, such as leaking ceilings and mould-infestations, which the team subsequently raised with housing associations and have now been successfully resolved.
While visiting the housing estates, Dan and the team were also able to identify and alert the Council to instances of fly tipping and damage from the November storm, which were swiftly addressed.
A number of businesses and local residents in the Mitcham Lane area also reported instances of anti-social behaviour relating to customers of some of the units on the high street. Dan visited these units and following discussions with the Furzedown Safer Neighbourhood Police Team, who have spoken to the owners of these shops, the problems have not re-occurred.
Also on the Mitcham Lane, shop-owners have requested support on a number of issues, ranging from the Sainsbury’s planning application, through to blocked drains and uneven pavements.
Dan commented, “My constituency-wide autumn newsletter attracted more appeals for help from Furzedown than any other Tooting ward and I’ve been pleased to help these residents across a very diverse range of issues. Through persistence and hard work, we have been able to deliver results for all of those asking for help, and will be happy to assist anyone else who gets in touch.”
