Dan Watkins has welcomed figures showing that the Conservatives are delivering a growing number of affordable homes to help lower income families get access to high quality housing, both locally and nationwide.
In Wandsworth 1,020 new affordable homes have been delivered since 2010, giving more families the opportunity to move into a good quality, affordable home and plan for their future.
Nearly 200,000 new affordable homes have now been built across the country since 2010. And across all sectors of the housing market, Britain is now building more homes than at any time since 2007, thanks to the Government’s long-term economic plan.
Dan said:
‘Labour cut the number of social homes to rent, while Gordon Brown’s mismanagement of the economy led to a collapse in housebuilding meaning thousands of families could not find a home they could afford.
‘That’s why the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan took action to get Britain building again and launched the London Housing Zones, Help to Buy and other initiatives so more people could get on the housing ladder.
‘Thanks to these policies, over one thousand new affordable homes have been delivered in Wandsworth in the past three years. We also have a growing number of new private homes being constructed and this is having a positive impact on the market. Not only has Wandsworth Council frozen rents for council tenants this year, but private renting costs are moderating in the borough.
‘Our long-term economic plan is helping people to find a good quality, affordable home where they can raise a family, contribute to their communities and enjoy greater financial security.’
