I'm pleased to let you know that I've just heard from Wandsworth Council that our application to list the Selkirk Pub as an Asset of Community Value (ACV) has been successful. Thanks to all of the local residents and users of the pub who put their name to my petition and application earlier this year - it has made a difference and you can read the Council's approval notice via the attachment below.
While there is no specific threat to the Selkirk Pub as yet, the owner Enterprise Inns has recently announced its intention to sell over a thousand pubs, with those located off the high street being at particular risk.
This is the third successful pub ACV listing we've achieved in Tooting and it's worth remembering that the previous two - for the Wheatsheaf Pub and Trafalgar Arms - both led to successful outcomes. Not only will the listing allow us to mount a community bid should the pub be sold at a later date, but it also provides additional planning protection. This is because Parliamentary legilsation introduced in April 2015 removed permitted development rights for any pub listed as an ACV, such that the Council has the final say in regards to any proposed change of use or demolition of the pub.
The Selkirk is a historic pub, fulfilling an important community role, so 'three cheers' for this great news!
