Dan Watkins, who has been selected by the Conservative Party to fight the Tooting seat in the 2015 General Election, today praised the steps the Government has taken to get the economy back on track.
Unemployment has seen a steep drop in Tooting since the Government's welfare reforms were introduced to make work pay. At the time of the last election there were 2,413 claimants of Jobseekers Allowance in Tooting, by last month this number had fallen by over 15% to 2,043.
Nationally, 1.4 million new private sector jobs have been created in three years and the number of businesses in the UK has increased by around 400,000 over the last three years to a record high.
Dan, himself an employer and business owner in the constituency commented: "These figures are a positive sign of growth in the UK economy, and it is credit to our fantastic local businesses for creating these new jobs.
"There is still more work to do but the economy is growing, the deficit is falling and jobs are being created - and that’s the only sustainable way to raise living standards for hardworking families."
