The Rising Sun is the only pub in Beltinge and a key community venue. Despite a period of instability in recent years, the pub has continued to play its role as a community hub, being used for birthdays and wakes, live music and fundraisers, quiz nights and socials. It hosts the annual OAP Christmas Party for elderly Beltinge residents, and only a few years ago had sporting interest too, with well-supported darts and Bat & Trap teams.
The owner of the Rising Sun is Enterprise Inns, which is well known for selling its pubs across the country and converting them into shops or flats. With the latest publican having handed their notice in, local people are concerned that Enterprise is considering selling the pub.
Closure of the Rising Sun would be a huge loss to our growing community. Therefore myself and your local Conservative team have made an application to the Council for the pub to become an Asset of Community Value (ACV). If successful, the pub will then benefit from planning protection, making it harder for the owner to close and sell it.
Having run in the past several successful ACV campaigns, which secured the future of threatened pubs, I’m hopeful that by taking this action we will see the Rising Sun survive and thrive for many years ahead.
Thank you to all the local residents who signed the ACV nomination and we hope to have positive news for you in the autumn.
