Dan Watkins has welcomed new figures showing that the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in Tooting has fallen by 565 over the last year. Since 2010 the number of residents on unemployment benefits has fallen even further, by 730.
‘It’s great news that unemployment in the Tooting constituency has dropped by 25% in just 12 months. I’m very pleased for residents benefitting from these new jobs, who now have a more secure, brighter future ahead of them.
‘The economy is growing and jobs are being created by businesses right across London. Closer to home in Tooting we can see examples of this rise in activity, whether it be construction jobs on the Garratt Lane or Tooting High Street, or the new 300-person office being built in Earlsfield.
'It’s clear the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan is working, and the foundations of a broad based recovery are in place. But it 's a tragedy for every person that remains unemployed and so we need to continue with our reforms to the British economy if we are to continue creating jobs and meet the Chancellor’s stated goal of full employment before 2020.’
